What are my options for practical conservation of printed art?
To me, practical conservation is a balance of display for enjoyment and basic precaution.
Use basic precaution when choosing a location within your home that does not place the print in the direct rays of sunshine day in and day out. A suitable spot in your home is an area that provides visual enjoyment, room enhancement, and indirect lighting particularly the sun.
To further protect your image, utilize the services of a trusted professional framer to assist you in the process of conservation. At Fine Imaging, we offer extensive custom framing options including Canvas Stretching, Gallery Wrap, Custom Frame Moulding, Matting and Mounting. Please call the studio for more information - 770-579-9062
Can I provide my own paper for printing?
YES, We will except your media for printing. However, we reserve the right to reject any media for suitablitity with our equipment. For the best results, we recommend utilizing our custom color profiling services to gain reliable and reproduceable color.
How do we make our FINE ART prints?
Every image from David Fine of FINE IMAGING STUDIOS, Inc. is recorded on professional film emulsions with the very best cameras and lenses available today. Some images are recorded using 35mm while others are recorded on medium format type cameras. After the images are recorded to film, each roll of film is processed in a professional lab for optimal results. Final image selections are made after each image is scrutinized for content and quality. Each new selection is scanned on a high-resolution digital drum scanner at 4000dpi. This resolution allows for high-quality prints even at very large print sizes on our state of the art digital printer. After scanning, the images are brought into an imaging computer where they are color and tone corrected for final printing. The images are not retouched, but rather targeted for the Giclče process of printing. Our photographic prints are Giclče Prints (pronounced “Zhee-Clay”) that offer brilliant color, tonal range, and image quality that are highly archival with a life expectancy of more than 80 years if properly framed and protected. Each image printed is reproduced to one of several papers including watercolor, canvas and traditional photographic surfaces to enhance the image appearance. Finishing the image includes matting and framing with acid free materials that contain a buffer to protect the image for years to come.
Why do you use a Digital Printer instead of traditional silver printing?
Our Giclče digital printers offer unprecedented quality, reliability, and consistency in reproduction that was previously unavailable for archival photographic reproduction. The archival properties of the Giclče process offer better longevity than the most carefully printed silver halide prints.

What is drum Scanning?
Drum Scanning is the single best technology for digitizing either negative or positive images for enhancement on any computer system. What is Oil Mounting?
Oil mounting has long been accepted as the standard for adhering images either negative or transparent positives (slides) to the drum for superior scan results. Each image is mounted to the drum utilizing special tape and oil that will help to minimize scratches, film emulsion imperfections, and film grain. Upon completion of scanning, each image is cleaned and placed back in its original container. There is no permanent residue from oil mounting and absolutely no risk of damage to any film original.
I have flatbed scanner, why bother with Fine Imagining's Drum Scanning Services?
